Royton Hot Brass

Our *NEW* Royton Hot Brass is a contemporary Street Band, playing everything from New Orleans to ska styles, from rhythm & blues to Bavarian Oompah and from funk to punk (okay, not punk really, it just rhymed). We rehearse on Sunday evenings in Royton (Oldham), Greater Manchester, based at Royton Moravian Church in the Town Centre. We are affiliated with NLB Network and with our sister-project, English Jazz Orchestra Oldham, and we benefit from exciting collaborative, cross-genre projects and inter-city collaborations.

Our weekly rehearsals are at 6pm to 7.30pm on Sunday evenings at Royton Moravian Church, Spring Garden Street, Royton, Oldham OL2 5QE. Buses from Royton and Rochdale stop on the main road, just yards away, providing links to Metrolink Tram Stops in both directions. There is also free parking right outside the Church.

We are closely linked to our sister project, English Jazz Orchestra Oldham, which rehearses on Monday evenings at Oldham Baptist Church. ENJO Oldham players currently benefit from free membership of Royton Hot Brass as well.

Royton Hot Brass is a Member Band of North London Brass Network, albeit the most northerly extremity you could imagine!

Our sessions are led by Martyn Stogden.

We play a range of modern, contemporary styles, anything from New Orleans brass to ska, funk charts, a bit of two-tone, Madness and The Specials, reggae, pop and Bavarian oompah music. As we are Royton's town band, we also retain the capacity to play traditional British brass band music to suit all occasions.

Our instrumentation includes all traditional British brass band instruments (cornet, flugelhorn, tenor horn, baritone horn, trombones, euphonium, Eb and Bb bass tubas), plus saxophones, clarinet, drum kit and rhythm section instruments. Ask us to see if we can accommodate you and your instrument!

For more information about Royton Hot Brass, please contact Martyn Stogden, NLB Director, on 07481 565 166 or email us at martyn@fourhillsltd.com

If you are a complete beginner, whatever your age or previous musical experience, we would be delighted to help teach you how to play brass and we can possibly set you up with an instrument too.
